These recommendations were based on rapid reduction in diseases burden from the implementation of an accelerated rubella control strategy; the extensive experience gained by the Region in vaccinating large and heterogeneous population groups; the cost-benefi t data from the English-speaking Caribbean; the availability of a safe, affordable, and effi cacious vaccine; and the existing political commitment of Member countries.
